CERME 14 FIRST ANNOUNCEMENT

14th Congress of the European Society for Research in Mathematics Education

Submission and pre-registration now open

We are delighted to announce that the Fourteenth Congress of the European Society for Research in Mathematics Education (CERME14) will take place from 4 to 8 February 2025. It will be preceded by the YERME day for young researchers from 3 to 4 February. The conference will take place in Bozen-Bolzano (Italy) and will be hosted by the Free University of Bozen-Bolzano.

CERME is a distinctive conference designed to foster communication, cooperation, and collaboration among researchers in mathematics education. Its main feature is that attendees participate in one of 29 Thematic Working Groups (TWGs) over several sessions on a common theme in mathematics education research. The TWGs cover a wide range of themes and provide an opportunity for researchers to work together.

Plenary events will approach recent trends in the evolution of mathematical curricula given the new society demands, especially critical issues such as sustainability and the high development of data science. They will consist of a general lecture on curriculum reforms by Ferdinando Arzarello (Italy) and two plenary talks in dialogue form, one relating to sustainability by Kjellrun Hiis Hauge (Norway) and Alf Coles (UK) as a representative of ERME, another on data science by Michelle Wilkerson (USA) and Rolf Biehler (Germany) as a representative of ERME.

Researchers in mathematics education are invited to submit a paper or poster to one of the TWGs. Details of the TWGs, their leaders and call for papers will be available on the conference website on April 1st, 2024 (https://cerme14.it). Submission and reviewing guidelines and details of the electronic submission process will be available on June 1st, 2024. The deadline for the submission of papers and posters is September 15, 2024.

Conference fees (with a reduced fee for students), will be available on the website starting from beginning April. CERME14 is planned as a face-to-face event. If this should turn out to be impossible, it will be held as a virtual conference on the same dates.

At CERME14, two prizes will be awarded: the ERME Paper Award (for young researchers) and the ERME Poster Award (for all researchers). Further details are available at the ERME website. ERME encourages diversity amongst the conference participants and offers support through the Graham Littler Fund, which provides financial assistance for academics from underrepresented or economically weak countries, and through the Early Bird Submission Process, which provides early feedback to researchers who do not have access to expert advice on writing papers for international conferences.

We look forward to seeing many of you at the conference in Bozen-Bolzano in February 2025!
